
A Southern California native, Mr. Lorenzen received his Bachelor of Arts degree, with an emphasis in music
education from San Diego State University, and a Master of Music degree from Azusa Pacific University, with
an emphasis in conducting. During his twenty-seven years as a Music Educator, he has taught all levels of
instrumental music from elementary through college. He has served as a clinician and adjudicator for marching
competitions and concert festivals for regional and state band organizations throughout the western United States.
Mr. Lorenzen is often called upon to guest conduct various regional honor groups, and has guest conducted the San
Diego County CMEA Middle School Honor Band, the San Diego Unified School District Honor Band, the Irvine Unified
School District Middle School Honor Band, the Heartland Honor Band sponsored by Southern Illinois University,
and in 2004, the Southern California Junior High School Honor Band sponsored by the Southern California School
Band and Orchestra Association.
During the summer of 2000, Mr. Lorenzen was on the staff of the 2000 member Sydney Olympic Band that performed a
t the opening ceremony of the Sydney Olympic Games. As an accomplished conductor, Mr. Lorenzen has served the
Artistic Director and Principal Conductor for the San Diego Wind Ensemble, along with other professional
conducting positions ranging from Musical Theater to Music Ministry.
As a tireless music advocate, Mr. Lorenzen has served for fourteen years as a member of the Board of Directors
for the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association, including two terms as President. He has
twice been recognized as "Teacher of the Year," and is the recipient of the SCSBOA Gold Award "for service
and dedication to Music Education in Southern California." In 2003, Mr. Lorenzen was awarded the SCSBOA
Honorary Life Member Award, the association's highest award, celebrating his long tenure as a leader in
the area of music education. |
